Here’s the beginner training program I used when when I started on my path to a healthier life.  I followed this exact program (and a balanced diet) to lose 25 lbs in two months.  Also, it should be noted that only minimal equipment is required (dumbbells and a bench).  This is a simple program to do in the gym or at home.
